doublesix on UK Tax Breaks
Can you hear it? That's the collective voice of the UK's games industry swooning with delight. Today, UK chancellor George Osborne has announced tax breaks for the UK...
We were recently visited by some lovely people from Deutsche Welle, which is a big German international broadcaster. They were interested in our take on the recent tax break reversal by the new UK coalition government, something that has been understandably rubbing people’s backs up in the UK games industry quite a bit. Apart from crediting me with creating Burn Zombie Burn (which is very generous as I only did the scripting, along with Jim and Chewie obviously) the rest of the piece covers the wider impact the tax breaks are going to have in the UK. Naturally, the below video is also available in German and the original link on Deutsche Welle’s website is here, as the YouTube one cuts out towards the end.
James Brooksby, our studio head, was recently interviewed over at Game Careers.biz about doublesix and the fact that our studio looks like a messy kids bedroom (it really does). Thankfully, they were kind enough to upload the interview as a video to YouTube, shown below. Despite the bizarre green screen effect, which gives James a fuzzy purple hairdo, it does cover the fact that we have three super tip-top secret games in production (self published too). In any case, enjoy the video below and guesses as to what we’re making next on an electronic postcard…

Here’s a new trailer for Babeorella, though this one actually shows the gameplay more clearly (rather than over the shoulder, as per this one). The game has also been receiving a fair few positive reviews too, so it seems that peeps like whipping robots whilst wearing hotpants!

For those that played Super Mario World back in the day, you’ll find the following video pretty amazing. There are a few of these going the rounds, but this is by far the most brilliant. To really appreciate how wonderfully clever this is you need sound, as everything is synced up with the audio.
Not that long ago we launched a cool Burn Zombie Burn Home area. It’s been quite popular and we’re planning on doing more with it. We also did a funky trailer for the Home area too but it seemed to get lost amongst the undead throng. In any case, we’ve finally managed to upload it (in HD no less). Enjoy!
The challenge we set in our last podcast has been resolutely won by Markus Tiihonen from Finland. With a suitably epic score of 14,131,216 Markus managed to attain that on the first challenge in Burn Zombie Burn without using fire. Well done!
We’re still working out his prize but we endeavouring to make it as awesome as we can. Below is the video he submitted.
Now that the new patch for Burn Zombie Burn supports YouTube recording and uploading straight from your PlayStation 3, 18 year old Markus Tiihonen from Finland has been the first to use it in the wild. The interesting aspect about this video is how Markus uses the chain multiplier on the Exploding Zombie Head, as he racks it up quite quickly so as to maximise his score. Anyway, the video is below and if you want to show the world your l33t skills, well now you can!
We’ve been a bit busy recently, hence the lack of updates. There are some cool things to report soon but in the meantime we’ve done some more gameplay videos for Burn Zombie Burn. These are meant to be more instructional to players who are having trouble with some of the technical aspects of the game (notably that of the Secret Lab). We hope these are helpful!
Since Burn Zombie Burn’s release the reviews have been coming thick and fast. On the whole, reviewers seem to “get” the game’s core mechanics and enjoy the game quite a bit. Naturally this is rather heart warming for us, as we all worked hard on making the game fun. Anyway, pertinent reviews that have recently surfaced are Consolemonster, Ace Games, Sixthaxis, Wonderwallweb, PS3 Attitude and Destructoid (the latter also has a video review linked below).
This is a video of the first challenge in the game; My Exploding Zombie Head. There is a reason this is the first challenge as it teaches the player the merits of TNT in relation to blowing up hordes of flaming zombies. There’s also the added aspect of chaining the TNT explosions for an even greater score multiplier. Please watch in HD if you can.
